    • What is Historical Futures Data?

    Historical futures data shows the price history of a commodity. It will show the daily price flucuation, volume and open interest of a specific commodity. For instance, you can view the price history of the June 1997 Gold contract. By finding that day in the futures data file you will see the open, high, low and close of that day. Also include is the volume and open interest.

    Actual Contract Data
    Actual contract files show the pricing history for a specific month and commodity. For instance you can see the price activity for just July 1997 Corn, or March 1992 Wheat. You have the actual contract and all pricing history just for that futures data file.

    Continuous Contract
    Continuous contracts are a little different. A Continuous contract is one large file that shows the entire history of a given commodity. The continuous contract of CBOT Wheat will show one large file with all of the prices of wheat in it. To minimize chart gaps the data must be smoothed. The most accepted smoothing technique is called backwardization - prices are back smoothed to provide the smoothest pricing chart.
